Michael Appleton rued Blackpool not taking opportunities, as the Seasiders lost 1-0 at home to Luton Town.

The side created numerous chances to find the net, particularly second-half, however a resolute opposition held firm.

“We’re disappointed and frustrated to create the amount of chances and opportunities that we got today and not come away with anything. I said to the players, I’m not disappointed we didn’t pick a point up, I’m disappointed we’ve not picked up all three,” Appleton said.

“You could ask can we not be more clinical and not give them the opportunity to make the blocks, but the opposition defended for their lives, and you’ve got to give them some credit. I think I counted eight, nine point-blank blocks within the six-yard box.”

Pool were left to count the cost on further fronts away from the result, with Jordan Thorniley forced off and Keshi Anderson suffering another injury blow.

“It looks like his hamstring, and the one that he did prior to his quad,” Appleton said of Anderson. “It’s not great but we’ll try and get the swelling down and get him scanned.”

Illness meanwhile ruled out a number of players prior to the game, while Charlie Patino lasted 45 minutes on his return from a bout of it.

“Sonny and Shayne were both ill. Similar sort of symptoms to what Charlie had earlier in the week. That’s been since Wednesday, Thursday. We’ve had more players ill today as well. Rhys Williams was sick at half-time. We’re just going to have to crack on and get on with it.”
