The Under-18’s continued their 100% start to the campaign with a 3-1 win away to Accrington Stanley.

Pool dominated the majority of the first half but went into the break with nothing to show for it.

Accrington Stanley looked to make them pay in the second half, taking the lead in the 57th minute.

Blackpool responded with goals from George Elder, Gabriel Schluter and Layton Campbell to secure the win.

Pool started the game off strongly and a quick counter-attack in the 20th minute saw James Butterworth released on the right-hand side but he failed to find a blue shirt with his ball in.

Just four minutes later, Pool won a free-kick on the right-hand side of the Accrington box; Theo Upton passed the ball to Tyler Hill on the edge of the box who unleashed a fierce strike which smashed against the crossbar.

The Young Seasiders continued to build pressure, with the ball falling to the feet of Spencer Knight at the edge of the box, whose shot forced a fine save from the Accrington ‘keeper.

Terry Bondo found himself through on goal in the 32nd minute after some neat build-up play, but he failed to hit the target under pressure from the Accrington Stanley defender.

Pool won a free-kick right on the edge of the Accrington Stanley box just before the break, Upton took it and looked to catch the ‘keeper out on his side, but was denied by a fine save.

Pool looked to continue where they left off in the second half, and just six minutes in Hill played a deep cross to the far post but an unmarked Butterworth couldn’t convert his header.

Accrington Stanley took advantage in the 57th minute, as their attacker pounced to hit home with their first chance of the game.

Pool responded well and were level just 10 minutes later; Layton Campbell did well to win a free-kick on the right wing, Upton curled a delightful ball in which was met by George Elder who powered his header home.

Blackpool nearly completed the comeback in the 71st minute, Bondo went through one-on-one, but his shot couldn’t beat the Accrington ‘keeper and Jack Richardson couldn’t adjust his body to convert the rebound.

The Young Seasiders went close again in the 78th minute, an Upton free-kick from the left wing was this time met by Bondo who forced yet another fine save from the Accrington goalkeeper.

Pool wouldn’t have to wait long to take the lead though, in the 80th minute substitute Gabriel Schluter latched onto the ball on the edge of the box and fired his shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

The win was secured in stoppage time at the end of the game, Campbell powered his way through the middle of the Accrington defence and was bundled over to win a penalty for Pool.

Campbell took the spot kick himself, which he calmly slotted down the middle.
