Rob Apter has won the Sky Bet League One September Goal of the Month award for his outstanding solo goal against Burton Albion.

The wide man beat off competition from Exeter City’s Ed Francis, Chuks Aneke of Charlton Athletic and Mansfield Town’s Lee Gregory to pick up the award.

“It’s a great feeling to win this award,” he said.

“There were some impressive goals on the shortlist, so to come out on top of that in a supporter vote is great.

“Individual awards are special to receive, but it’s all about the team. We’re pleased with our recent results and performances and hopefully we can push on over the coming weeks and months.”

Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman explained why Apter’s first goal in Tangerine picked up the top prize.

“This is the type of goal that all fans want to see their club’s wingers scoring - stemming from the positive mindset of wanting to take men on and make something happen,” he said.

“It’s so refreshing to see a player stay on his feet when given at least two opportunities to go down and deservedly, he was rewarded with a fine goal.”
