Blackpool Head Coach Steve Bruce admitted that his side were second best against Wrexham, after they were beaten 2-1 at Bloomfield Road.

Two goals just after the hour mark put the Seasiders to the sword, with James McClean and Oliver Rathbone on target for the visitors.

Pool got themselves back into the game late on, but Rob Apter’s 94th minute strike wasn’t enough to earn them anything from the game.

Bruce said his team were beaten by the better side on the day.

“I don’t think we can have any complaints,” Bruce said.

“I think if we’re being brutally honest the better team won on the day, and we have to put our hands up to that. We’re disappointed with how we’ve played in a big game.

“We didn’t play anywhere near what we’re capable of and a big compliment of that goes to Wrexham too. They came here and really did a job on us.”

After registering six wins from their last eight prior to the Wrexham game, Bruce was frustrated that his side couldn’t continue their impressive league form.

“I was disappointed with the way we played, especially after how we’ve played lately,” Bruce said.

“We gave the ball away far too often and it was a struggle for us today if I’m being brutally honest.

“You need to be at your ‘A game’ today and we weren’t. Rotherham a couple of weeks ago was for me the biggest game of them all,” Bruce said.

“That’s what happens unfortunately. We’ve lost a couple and it’s cost us.”

The Pool Head Coach also provided an update on Sonny Carey, who missed out through injury.

“Unfortunately, he’s hurt his knee and he wasn’t comfortable with it,” Bruce said.

“Yesterday was a struggle for him and he wasn’t right today.

“Over the last couple of months he’s been arguably our best player. When you take him out of it, especially in a big game like today, it’s frustrating.”

With three games left to go, the Seasiders Head Coach wants to see a professional response from his side.

“We’re disappointed of course. We’ve got two weeks to go and not a lot to play for,” Bruce said.

“We’ve got to be professional. We’ve got three games to finish it off and a bit of local derby next week at Wigan. We’ll see where we go.”
