A late header by Albie Morgan kept Blackpool’s unbeaten start to 2025 intact as they drew 1-1 with Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.

Gary Bowyer’s Burton continued their recent form in the first-half at the Pirelli Stadium when Rumarn Burrell gave them the lead with a dinked finish.

Steve Bruce’s Tangerines huffed and buffed in the second period but couldn’t find a way past the Brewers defence until added time when Morgan headed in to level the match up.

The hosts made the better start of the two sides, picking up second balls and in the 7th minute wing-back Udoka Godwin-Malife picked up a clearing header by Elkan Baggott before playing it wide.  Malife got on the end of the eventual cross from the left but his header went over the bar.

January’s Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Burrell opened the scoring twenty minutes into the game when he ran clear of the Pool defence before brilliantly dinking the ball over the onrushing Harry Tyrer.

Niall Ennis made his first start for the Seasiders after scoring on his debut off the bench last week and he looked to swivel and finish into the bottom corner midway through the first period, but he dragged his finish wide.

The Seasiders went close soon after when Baggott rose highest from a corner but his downward header was easily collected by Max Crocombe in the Brewers goal.

Burrell threatened to add another to his tally when he used his body well get om the end of a ball over the top from John Dadi Bodvarsson, but this time Tyrer was on hand to tip it around his near post.

Only a minute later Charlie Webster blasted over from a right angle as Bowyer’s side looked to finish the half strongly at the Pirelli Stadium.

Pool controlled possession after the break, with added threat to their attacks and CJ Hamilton nearly created the leveller when he raced in behind the Brewers defence down the left before cutting the ball back to Ashley Fletcher, but the striker’s finish deflected wide for a corner.

Ennis showed great strength and agility to take down a long ball down the right before bursting past his man and getting to the byline but as he ran inside his layoff did fall kindly to a man in a white shirt.

The chances kept coming for the Pool as Morgan clipped in a delightful ball with his right foot to an unmarked Hamilton, but he directed his header wide from 12 yards.

Steve Bruce made a triple change with 15 minutes left to play as Pool looked for an equaliser and Hayden Coulson made an instant impact racing past his man before firing a low ball across the six-yard box but somehow no one was there for the Seasiders to stab it home.

As Pool searched for a leveller they were nearly caught out on the break by the hosts as Burrell raced through on goal but this time he couldn’t get the better of Tyrer, with the shot-stopper getting down low to his left to save.

Hamilton got the better of his man down the right in the 87th minute before firing another low ball across the six-yard box but this time Ennis was denied by a goal line clearance.

The equaliser finally came for the Seasiders in stoppage time when midfielder Morgan stooped to head a delivery from Sammy Silvera in at the near post to cue delirious scenes in the Pool away end.
