Steve Bruce believes Blackpool’s first win of 2025 over Exeter City was a key result and performance for his side.
The Seasiders completed their first league double of the season at St James Park to remain unbeaten in 2025 and Head Coach Bruce was delighted with the performance.
“We’ve been close for a few weeks, but haven’t took our chances,” he said.
“Today was the opposite, we took our chances well. The first-half was arguably as good as I’ve seen us play, especially away from home against a very decent team. We were electric in the first-half. It’s been coming, we have been saying for weeks it’s been close. We have once again left our best performances for away matches. That is a bit frustrating but I suppose it’s not the worst thing.
“It’s a big step for us. I believe we are edging in the right direction. We still have a bit to do but I’m pleased with what I’ve seen today.”
Forward Tom Bloxham started his second straight match since arriving from Shrewsbury Town and he impressed Bruce.
“I thought Tom (Bloxham) had a great debut last week and today he was the mainstay,” he said.
“He caused them all sorts of problems. Great goal and a great assist for him. Really pleased for him and he looks a really decent buy for us.”
Centre-back Elkan Baggott made his first start since 24 August, and Bruce was delighted for him after the injury setbacks he has had to deal with so far this season.
“Elkan (Baggott) was outstanding,” he said.
“He has had to wait and he has just been unfortunate with injuries since he’s been at the Club. He stepped in terrifically well today. I’m really pleased for him.”
Bruce also singed the praises of the Pool fans who made the trip south to cheer on the Tangerines at St James Park.
“For them to come down in their hundreds is a testament to their support,” he said.
“Hats off to all of them. I hope they have a safe trip back. Fair play to them to come this far. You are a true supporter if you come all this way.”
