Matt Pennington became the second signing of the 2023 summer transfer window, joining the Club from Shrewsbury Town on a two-year deal.

With the option of a further year, Pennington joined Shrewsbury from Everton in 2021 following a succession of loan spells at various EFL sides. Pennington spent 16 years at Goodison Park, making his senior debut in 2015, with loan spells at the likes of Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Coventry City.

The central defender played 38 times in his first season in Tangerine scoring two goals as the Seasiders narrowly missed out on the League One play-offs.  Pennington is able to play at centre-back and right-back.
